Junior is named top CIAA bowler

SciortinoJunior Nicole Sciortino (Raleigh, N.C.) of Saint Augustine’s University received two individual bowling awards at the CIAA Women’s Bowling Round-Up which was held at AMF Centennial Lanes in Charlotte, N.C. from Friday, February 7 thru Sunday, February 9.

Sciortino was named CIAA Top Bowler and CIAA Top Southern Division Bowler at the event after rolling a 216.75 average in 12 matches. Her average was the highest among all CIAA bowlers at the event. She bowled 10 200-plus matches including a high score of 248. She also rolled scores of 237, 236, 222, 216, 213 twice, 212 twice and 211. Sciortino is a two-time All-CIAA bowler and won both CIAA Most Valuable Bowler and CIAA Rookie Bowler of the Year awards as a freshman in 2013.

The next closest average was 209.0 rolled by Rebecca Clements of Virginia State. Only three CIAA bowlers averaged over 200 pins at the event.

The Lady Falcons finished seventh at the Round-Up. They defeated CIAA defending champion Bowie State University 842-811 in their first team match.

The Lady Falcons will bowl again Friday, March 14 thru Sunday, March 16 in the CIAA Northern-Southern Divisional III match. The site is Nags Head, N.C.
