Dr. Ward’s installment adds buzz to Homecoming weekend

Just before her aerobics class ended on Tuesday, Oct, 27 , aerobics instructor Asst. Prof. Brenda Watson informed her students not to forget to attend the Investiture ceremony for President Everett B. Ward, Ph.D.; Mrs. Watson assured students that this was a great history-making moment and that each and every student at the university is blessed to be able to witness and be a part of.

Her students agreed. “It’s going to be such a great experience to witness history being made here at St. Aug  and I’m just glad I’m still here to witness it,” said Mildred Thomas, a senior commented.

The charged atmosphere that comes with Homecoming is even more charged this year because the weekend coincides with Dr. Ward’s investiture as St. Augustine’s 11th president. The university is so eager to get students to the ceremony that they have chartered a bus that will leave from the school at 7 a.m.  on Friday, Oct. 30th to take students from the campus to the location of where the ceremony will take place. The Investiture ceremony of President Ward will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Wake Chapel Church, located 3805 Tarheel Club Road in Raleigh.

“That is so very thoughtful of the university to even consider offering a way for all the students to be able to get the ceremony, so now there is no excuse that we as students can give as to why we will not be in attendance,” said Cathy Taylor, a freshman.

Mrs. Watson is just one of many professors who are encouraging students to attend the Investiture ceremony. Miss Kimberly Dunn, the director of the university’s Gospel Choir, has been pumping students up for the last two weeks about the event.

“It’s a great time to be a Falcon and we are here to support the school and all its efforts to make this university the best university it can be,” Ms. Dunn said during one of the rehearsals prepping the choir for the ceremony.
