SAU women fall to nationall ranked Virginia Union in basketball

RICHMOND, Va. – Sycoya Dorsey (Jr./Richmond, Va.) scored 15 points and Shanika Harris (Sr./Richmond, Va.) added 13 points for Saint Augustine’s University in a 102-53 CIAA women’s basketball loss to nationally-ranked Virginia Union University at Barco-Stevens Hall on Monday, Jan. 11, 2016.

Both Dorsey and Harris performed well in their hometown. Dorsey registered eight rebounds in addition to five assists and three steals, both team highs. Harris led the Lady Falcons with three three-point field goals while totaling five rebounds and four assists.
While both guards were scoring on the perimeter, Shakeisha Washington (Jr./Atlanta, GA) of the Lady Falcons nearly posted a double-double (eight points, 10 rebounds) in the paint. LaKiya Rouse (Sr./Greensboro, NC) and Ke-Ashe Lee (So./Roanoke, VA) scored seven and six points, respectively.
The Lady Falcons (3-12 overall, 0-5 CIAA) outplayed the Lady Panthers, ranked 20th in Division II, in stretches. After falling behind 37-13 in the first quarter, the Lady Falcons won the second quarter 18-13. Both Rouse and Washington scored five points while Harris and Dorsey each chipped in four points for the Lady Falcons, who trailed 50-31 at halftime.
The Lady Panthers, led by 35 points and 20 rebounds from Lady Walker, exploded in the third quarter to put the game out of reach. Walker scored 13 points as the Lady Panthers  (11-1 overall, 3-1 CIAA) outscored the Lady Falcons 26-6 in the quarter.
Kiana Johnson added 27 points and 17 assists for the Lady Panthers. Taylor White finished with 10 points and 15 rebounds.
After three straight road games in five days, the Lady Falcons return home Thursday, Jan. 14, for a CIAA contest against Chowan University at Emery Gymnasium in Raleigh, N.C. Tip-off is 5:30 p.m.
