Falcons drop baseball doubleheader

RALEIGH, N.C. – Johnathan Sierra led Saint Augustine’s University with two RBIs in 7-1 and 6-3 baseball losses to the University of Virginia-Wise at Lions Park on Sunday, Feb. 28, 2016.
 
Sierra knocked in both runs in the second game. His single through the right side scored Carey Cheek (Sr./Baltimore, MD) and Cameron Lopez in the first inning to put the Falcons up 2-1.
 
UVa.-Wise led 3-2 in the top of the second inning, but Darrell Langston (So./Chicago, IL) singled through the right side to score Tyquan Bryant (Jr./Henderson, NC) for a 3-3 tie in the bottom of the inning. UVa.-Wise (5-3 overall) scored two runs in the third inning and one run in the seventh inning for the win. Langston was 2-for-2 at the plate and William Thomas (Sr./Yorktown, VA) smacked a double for the Falcons (1-11 overall) in the contest.
 
In the first game, Alexis Garcia (Jr./Maracaibo, Venezuela) drove in the Falcons’ only run in the fourth inning when his double to left field scored Thomas. Cheek was 2-for-3 at the plate and Hector Pichardo added a double for the Falcons.
 
Both teams will square off again in a doubleheader at Lions Park on Monday, Feb. 28. The first pitch is scheduled for 12:30 p.m.
