Falcon runners win three events, tie for first place

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Top-ranked Saint Augustine’s University was victorious in three men’s events in the JCSU Invitational at the Irwin Belk Complex on Saturday, April 9, 2016.
 
The winners were Burkheart Ellis, Jr. (Sr./Raleigh, NC), David Shaw (Sr./St. Pauls, NC) and Jerome Exeter (Jr./West Palm Beach, FL). Ellis won the 200-meter dash in a provisional qualifying time of 20.99 and Shaw won the long jump with a leap of 21-7.5. Exeter captured the triple jump with a provisional qualifying mark of 49-6.5.
 
The trio led the Falcons to a first-place tie with Wingate University in the men’s team events with 68 points each. The University of Mount Olive was third with 59 points. The Falcons, ranked No. 1 nationally in Division II, posted 16 top-10 finishes in the men’s events.
 
Tia-Adana Belle (Jr./St. George, Barbados), the NCAA Division II National Female Track and Field Athlete of the Week, led the Lady Falcons in the women’s events. She placed second in the 400-meter dash in a provisional qualifying time of 55.08. The Lady Falcons, the nation’s top-ranked women’s Division II team, recorded 12 top-10 finishes.
