More than 100 athletes honored for 3.0 GPAs

RALEIGH, N.C. – One hundred and one Saint Augustine’s University student-athletes and cheerleaders were recognized for having higher than a 3.0 grade point average at the university’s Honors Convocation at Emery Gymnasium on Friday, April 8.
 
Nine scholar-athletes and cheerleaders were highlighted for earning perfect 4.0 grade point averages for the 2015 Fall Semester. They were Donell Andrews (Sr./Baltimore, MD/Football), Leah Barker (So./St. Michaels, Barbados/Cross Country-Track and Field), Timothy Carter (Jr./Lumberton, NC/Baseball), Keith Crawford (Sr./Richmond, VA/Men’s Basketball), Shakera Hall (Jr./Bridgetown, Barbados/Cross Country-Track and Field-Women’s Volleyball), Marley Parker (So./Langley, British Columbia/Women’s Volleyball-Softball), Maya Presson (Sr./Pennsauken, NJ/Women’s Basketball), Isis Thomas (Fr./Virginia Beach, VA/Cheerleader) and Christian Roberson (Sr./Richmond, VA/Cheerleader).
 
The women’s volleyball team, coached by Nikki Bynum-Bumpass, has the highest overall team grade point average for women’s sports with a 3.61 GPA. The baseball team, coached by Charles Whitaker, has the highest overall team grade point average for men’s sports with a 3.18 GPA. Seven of the 14 athletic teams have achieved a grade point average of 3.0 or better.
