Parker tosses no hitter in doubleheader sweep

SALISBURY, N.C. – Marley Parker (So./Langley, British Columbia) threw a no-hitter as Saint Augustine’s University swept Livingstone College 17-0 and 9-0 at MLK Park on Sunday, April 10, 2016, for its first CIAA Southern Division softball victories of the season.
 
The Lady Falcons evened their softball mark in the Southern Division at 2-2 while keeping Livingstone winless at 0-8. They relied on a relentless offensive attack and sharp pitching to win easily.
 
In the first game, Parker held Livingstone hitless to pick up the pitching victory. She recorded nine strikeouts and two walks. The sophomore pitcher has 20 strikeouts in her last two games.
 
Akera McPhaul (So./Greensboro, NC) and Tyanna Petersen (Jr./Brooklyn Park, MN) led the way offensively for the Lady Falcons, who produced 19 hits and 16 RBIs in the contest. McPhaul was 2-for-2 with a home run, double, three RBIs and two runs scored. Petersen was 2-for-3 with a double, three RBIs and two runs scored.
 
Brittany Jamison (Fr./Summerville, SC) was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored, and both Korey Hill (Jr./Virginia Beach, VA) and Danyelle Duckworth (Fr./Orange Park, FL) were 1-for-2 with two RBIs and one run scored. Haili Pettifer (So./Langley, British Columbia) was 1-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and one run scored.
 
Parker was 3-for-4 with one RBI and three runs scored. Meranda Zanni (Jr./Phoenix, OR) was 3-for-4 with three runs scored.
 
The Lady Falcons scored in all five innings in the first game. They scored two runs in the first inning when Parker’s RBI groundout scored McPhaul and Jasmine Rios (So./Greensboro, NC). The score increased to 5-0 in the second inning when Jamison’s RBI single scored Petersen, Duckworth’s RBI single scored Jamison and McPhaul’s sacrifice fly scored Duckworth.
 
The Lady Falcons blew the game open with six runs in the third inning for an 11-0 lead. Hill hit a two-run single to score Zanni and Parker, and Jamison scored Hill on an RBI single. Petersen scored on Duckworth’s RBI groundout and McPhaul smashed a two-run home run to score herself and Jamison. The homer was the third this season for McPhaul.
 
The Lady Falcons expanded their lead with four runs in the fourth. Pettifer scored Zanni and Parker on a two-run double, and Petersen scored Pettifer and Dazmine Young (Fr./Smithfield, NC) on a two-RBI single for a 15-0 lead. In the fifth inning, Parker scored on Young’s RBI single and Zanni scored on Petersen’s RBI groundout to finish the scoring.
 
In the second game, Rios homered twice to pace the Lady Falcons. She hit a solo shot in the second inning for a 2-0 lead and added a solo blast in the fifth for the final score.
 
The Lady Falcons erupted for six runs in the third inning to put the game away. Pettifer scored first on an infield error and Duckworth scored Parker and Hill on a two-run single. Petersen hit a two-run single to score Duckworth and Rios, and she later scored on Jamison’s RBI single for an 8-0 lead. The Lady Falcons led 1-0 in the first inning when McPhaul scored on Pettifer’s RBI groundout.
 
Rios was 3-for-3 with two homers, two RBIs and three runs scored for the Lady Falcons, who cranked out 13 hits. Petersen and Duckworth were both 1-for-3 with two RBIs and one run scored. Parker was 3-for-3 with one run scored and Jamieson was 1-for-2 with one RBI. Shan Billups was 2-for-2 for Livingstone (5-18 overall).
 
The pitching win went to Hill, who threw a three-hit shutout. She totaled 11 strikeouts and walked three batters in five innings.
 
The Lady Falcons (5-19 overall) return home to host Barton College in a non-conference doubleheader in Raleigh, N.C., on Wednesday, April 13. The starting times are 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.
