The Raleigh Classic

The night before the big game, Shaw University, had a mock Falcon funeral. It was their Homecoming and they had a right to feel great about themselves.

But Saturday at noon, when the football game began, it was a different story. The Falcons were very much alive.

Saint Augustine’s started early, driving the ball down the field with ease. Then things got a little scary when the Falcon’s quarterback, D.J. Johnson, went down with an injury. So Demetrius Lewis took over and ran for 1-yard touchdown.

Then during the second quarter Shaw struck back with a touchdown of their own. Then before the half ended Lewisstruck again with a 13-yard touchdown pass to Sam Boyd.

Both teams came out for the second half ready to play. The Falcons went to third gear and basically took over Shaw University’s Homecoming celebration. At the start of the 3rd quarter, the Shaw Bears fumbled at their own 2-yard line and Justin Shaw took it in for a touchdown to put the Falcons up 21-7. Then, later on in the 3rd quarter, Sean Smith kicked a 20-yard field goal to make it 24-7.

In the 4th quarter the Falcons kept running the ball down the Bears throat, including Jeremiah Miller running for a 2-yardtouchdown to make the score 31-7. The Bears did score one more time, making the score 31-14. But it wasn’t enough toprevent Saint Augustine’s University from winning the 2nd annual Raleigh Classic college football game while ruining the Shaw Bears homecoming.
