SAU students give holiday help to the community

The holiday season is here and our Falcons are helping out the community by serving residents in the city of Raleigh. On Nov. 24, a couple of organizations went out to multiple families’ homes to give a whole Thanksgiving meal to families in need of them.

A majority of the student organizations on campus donated food and beverages to local families in the area. Erin Davis, assistant director of student activities, headed up this project with assistance from Social Services of Wake County (SSWC).

SSWC provided a list of families in-need and Davis assigned each organization a family for Thanksgiving and Christmas. These families were put on an anonymous list from their loved ones who thought they could use the help.

The organizations who attended the drive to home to home were: Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Blue Chips, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., STEM, and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.

Among the participants was Howard Walker Jr., a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., “This was a great experience to be able to interact and be a blessing to others,” said Walker, a business administration major and a senior. Walker said he was more than excited to give back to the community he’s lived in for the past four years. He added: “Our goal is to double what did for Thanksgiving for Christmas.”
