SAU Softball hosts JSCU, Livingstone in doubleheaders this weekend

Makayla August Ranks In The CIAA Top 10 In Batting Average And Pitching Strikeouts

RALEIGH, N.C. (March 29) – Saint Augustine’s University will host two CIAA softball doubleheaders this weekend at Lions Park. Admission is free and the public is invited.

Johnson C. Smith University comes to town on Saturday, March 30, followed by Livingstone College on Sunday, March 31. Both twinbills start at 12 p.m.

Haley Sessoms (Jr./Kenansville, NC) and Makayla August (Jr./Palm Springs, CA) are the top hitters for the Lady Falcons (1-5 CIAA Southern Division, 1-9 overall). Sessoms bats .467 with six RBIs and 11 runs, both team highs. August averages .455 with three RBIs and seven runs.

Both Sessoms and August rank sixth and seventh, respectfully, in the CIAA in batting average, and August ranks second in the conference in on base percentage (.613). As a pitcher, August is tied for third in the CIAA in strikeouts (52).

Evelyn Arguelles of JCSU (4-4 CIAA Southern Division, 4-10 overall) ranks second in the conference in batting average (.500), fifth in slugging percentage (.853) and seventh in on base percentage (.541). For Livingstone (0-6 CIAA Southern Division, 0-14 overall), Jamie Tolkkinen bats .355 and leads the team in runs (8). Rebecca Brown is Livingstone’s leader in RBIs (8).
