August of SAU selected to all-CIAA Softball team

RALEIGH, N.C. (April 29) – Makayla August (Jr./Palm Springs, CA) of Saint Augustine’s University was named to the All-CIAA softball team on Monday.

August was a first-team selection as a utility player. She ranked among the league’s top 10 players in hitting, pitching and fielding during the regular season.

As a batter, August ranked ninth in the CIAA in on-base percentage (.507). She tied for seventh in doubles (7) and tied for sixth in triples (3). The SAU junior led the Lady Falcons in batting average (.410) and was second in RBIs (13) and runs (14).

August mainly pitched for the Lady Falcons but also played shortstop. As a pitcher, she ranked eighth in the CIAA in earned run average (3.94) and second in strikeouts (97). August tied for fifth in the conference in fielding double plays (6) and tied for fourth in assists (64).

Eleven players, including August, made up the first team. The All-CIAA squad consisted of 22 first-team and second-team players overall. The players were nominated and chosen by the CIAA softball coaches and sports information directors.

August was placed on the All-CIAA team for the second straight year after being picked HBCU Pitcher of the Year in the preseason. In 2018, she earned All-CIAA honors on the way to becoming a Fastpitch News All-American. In 2017, August was named to the All-CIAA Rookie Team and CIAA All-Tournament Team.
