Freeman gets cross country off to good start

Baron Freeeman finished two minutes ahead of is closest competitor.

RALEIGH, N.C. (Sept. 21) – Baron Freeman (So./Hampton, VA) of Saint Augustine’s University (SAU) outran the competition to win the men’s 8K race at the N.C. Wesleyan Cross Country Classic in Rocky Mount, N.C., on Saturday.

Freeman crossed the finish line in 26:19.4, winning by nearly two minutes. Teammates Bethwel Cheruiyot (So./Nairobi, Kenya) and Dayquan Chapman placed 14th (30:16.9) and 15th (30:24.4), respectively, as the Falcons finished third in the men’s team standings with 71 points.

Florence Fields (Jr./St. Michaels, Barbados) of SAU was sixth in the women’s 6K run (26:47). The Lady Falcons placed fifth in the women’s team standings.

The Falcons and Lady Falcons run again on Saturday, Sept. 28 in the Greensboro Invitational in Greensboro, N.C. The women’s 5K race begins at 1 p.m. followed by the men’s 8K race at 1:45 p.m.
