Chamber Singers bring back holiday tradition

On the evening of November 22, The University Chamber singers had their Christmas recital with the theme “Miracle on Oakwood Avenue.”
The University Choir hasn’t been able to have a recital in three years, but as the school’s fall semester came to a close, the Chamber Singers were able to revive the tradition.

The audience clearly appreciated the return of the Christmas recital. Throughout the entirety of the show, here were shouts of glee or even tears.
Prior to the group’s last concert, at South Davey Street Presbyterian Church, in Downtown Raleigh, they added to their repertoire. Choir director Jasmyn Coope, had her students perform intricate pieces. Sings in the show included “The Best of Rooms,” “Over My Head” — even a song in Latin.

Among the Saint Augustine’s University students in attendance was Denarius Guy, an exercise science major. “I had a nice time,” Guy said. “It was cool. They were singing — singing, man.”

Another attendee was Sherquita McLean-Kelly, a junior majoring in Media & Communications.

“They were very nice,” McLean-Kelly said. “I loved how they had a special performer sing Christmas songs.”

The recital even had a special guest — JeRenae Raeford, first runner up for Miss North Carolina. Ms. Raeford sang Christmas songs.
