Modeling troupes compete, audience wins

Nubiance Modeling Toupe (NMT) and their competitor Belle’Jadore Modeling
Troupe (BJMT) were honored with an expected packed house of over 300 guests on
Wednesday, Oct. 17.

During Saint Augustine’s University’s 2012 Homecoming both modeling troupes
were featured in a competition where they showcased their collegiate talents at
center stage of Seby Jones Performing Arts building. Students, parents and faculty
patiently waited in line to enter the double doors of the auditorium and observe
who they believed was the winner but ultimately who would be selected by the
judges as the winners of this highly demanding 2012 modeling competition.

Nubiance Modeling Troupe held the title from 2009 Homecoming, which was
the last time the two organizations were given the chance to compete against each
another. This year both competitors selected movie themes to accompany their
performance which included choreography, elaborate costumes, music and props.
Belle’Jadore chose “The Wizard of Oz” and Nubiance selected “Coming to America.”

Performing on a collaborative runway with choreography and a competitive “walk-
off” battle, the troupes were judged on creativity, punctuality and accuracy. Hosts
Ebony Spencer (current student) and Philip Walker (alumni and former NMT
member) alleviated some stress from both BJMT and NMT by allowing the crowd to
perform for them.

Just before the hosts announced the 2012 Homecoming Modeling Champions, both
troupes entered the stage filling it from curtain to curtain, striking pose after pose
and eventually forming a cluster. Tension was high by the time Walker finally made
his announcement: “And the winners are — Nubiance Modeling Troupe.”

Hands clapped, hugs were given, pictures were taken and tears were
shed. It was obvious that hard work had been paid off.

Belle’Jadore respectfully congratulated and exited with their heads high. Some
audience members did not agree with the final decision, however that did not stop
Nubiance from walking away with their new trophy chanting, “Nubiance reigns
forever. NUBI ’93.”
