Falcons Sweep Lincoln (Pa.) In Baseball Twinbill

LINCOLN UNIVERSITY, Pa. – Saint Augustine’s University took two from Lincoln (Pa.)

University in a CIAA baseball doubleheader at the Lincoln University Baseball Field on Saturday, April 6, 2013. The scores were 18-5 in the first game and 6-5 in eight innings in the second game.

The victories upped the Falcons’ record to 24-15 overall and 11-2 in the CIAA. They are one game behind conference leader Winston-Salem State with five league games left. The Falcons play the third of a three-game series against Lincoln on Sunday, April 7, 2013, in Lincoln University, Pa. Game time is 1 p.m.

The Falcons had 19 hits in the first game. They took a 5-0 lead in the first inning and were in command the rest of the contest. By the sixth inning, the score was 18-2.
Clarence Ganus (Sr./Whiteville, N.C.) was the winning pitcher for the Falcons after scattering five hits and allowing two runs in four innings. He improved to 5-2. Chris Rogers (Sr./Chicago, Ill.) finished off the Lions in the final three innings. He gave up two hits and recorded three strikeouts.

After an easy first game victory, the Falcons edged the Lions in the second game. Clarence Peace (Soph./Creedmoor, N.C.) drove in four runs and Pat Hall (Sr./Virginia Beach, Va.) knocked in two runs to pace the Falcons offensively. Peace was 2-for-3 and Hall was 3-for-4 while Jason Baytop (Fr./Manchester, Md.) collected two hits.

Just like the first game, the Falcons jumped on the Lions early. They took a 4-0 lead in the first inning on a two-run Hall double which scored Ariel Polanco (Sr./Harlem, N.Y.) and Baytop, and a two-RBI Peace double which scored Jeremy Wilkins (Sr./Smithfield, N.C.) and Hall.

Hall scored on a throwing error for a 5-1 Falcons’ lead in the third. The Lions (4-20 overall, 2-12 CIAA) rallied in the fourth inning, scoring four runs to tie the game at 5-5. The score stayed that way until the eighth inning when Peace scored Sterling James (So./New Castle, Del.) on a single.

Stephen Hamilton (Sr./Chicago, Ill.) struck out seven batters in seven innings to get the win. He upped his pitching record to 3-3. Hall held the Lions hitless in the eighth for the save.
