St. Aug is “in the house” at MLK Day/Black History Month parades

MLK paradePresident Dianne Boardley Suber served as one of the grand marshals for the Annual Durham Rev. Martin Luther King Jr./Black History Month parade this past weekend. Sponsored by Spectacular Magazine, this year’s theme was Celebrating Black Women in American Culture, an opportunity to pay homage to the role African-American women have played in shaping character in the nation. The other grand marshals were Dr. Debra Saunders-White, chancellor for North Carolina Central University and Rosalind Fuse-Hall, Esq., president of Bennett College.

St. Augustine’s University was also well represented in the Raleigh MLK Day parade on Jan. 20. The university’s Superior Sound Marching Band performed, and Miss Saint Augustine’s University Jameela Robinson and Junior Class Queen Darnella Reeder marched. In addition, many students, faculty and staff from the St. Aug community attended and cheered on their school and the rest of the parade.
