St. Aug students take silver in video contest

documentarySt. Augustine’s students  have won an award for a news feature video she and other students produced. The video won a Silver Reel award from the 45th Annual MCA-I Media Festival. The festival celebrates excellence in media communications.

Brittany G. Brown, a senior majoring in journalism and mass communications (front row, far right), is the producer of record.  The other  students responsible for this piece are Christopher Coleman-Johnson (back, left), Dominique Cotten (front, center), Tyler Bryant (front, left), and Leonce Richardson (back row, right).  The video was produced with the help of Janet Gustafson (back row, center), staff of the Journalism and Mass Communications Department. (The video is posted in the multimedia column on the right side of this page.)

Each entry is reviewed by panels of industry professionals from across the country and around the world, many of who are Media Festival award winners themselves. Panels are made up of 5-7 judges. The MCA-I Media Festival is one of a very few festivals that provide feedback to the entrants from the judges. As with many other competitions, entries do not compete against each other and there may be more than one Golden, Silver or Bronze reel in a category.
Entries are evaluated on effective use of the medium, creativity, production values and technical quality in three areas: Message Design, Creative Elements and Production Elements.
Brown won in the “Student Work” category for her entry, “SPCA K9 3K Dogwalk.”
