Lady Falcons fall to Winston-Salem in volleyball

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Olivia Porter (So./Bakersfield, CA) had seven kills and Akera McPhaul(Fr./Greensboro, NC) added six kills for Saint Augustine’s University in a three-set CIAA Southern Division volleyball loss to Winston-Salem State University at Whitaker Gymnasium on Monday, September 22, 2014.

Juliseea Thomas (Jr./St. Croix, US Virgin Islands) finished with 12 assists and 10 digs for the Lady Falcons, who were defeated 25-21, 25-19, 25-10. Meghan Mahon (So./Houston, TX) contributed 15 digs and Mikaya Pettyjohn (Fr./Jamestown, NC) had three total blocks for the Lady Falcons (0-2 Southern Division, 1-4 CIAA, 1-8 overall).

Winston-Salem State was paced by Jasmine Smith with 13 kills and Sydney Holland with 12 kills. Kayla Brass had 33 assists and Olivia Owens collected five total blocks for the Lady Rams (1-1 Southern Division, 4-1 CIAA, 4-5 overall). The Lady Rams’ attack percentage was .235 compared to -.011 for the Lady Falcons.

The Lady Falcons return home on Wednesday, September 24 for a non-conference match against the University of Mount Olive. The match begins at 7 p.m. inside Emery Gymnasium.
