Raleigh, N.C. – The Saint Augustine Falcons will be playing in their final game of the regular season against their crosstown rivals the Shaw University Bears this coming Saturday, November 7, 2014. Both teams suffered heartbreaking losses this past weekend, which certainly dashed any post season hopes the two rivals had this season.
This match-up was set up as the Falcons (2-7) come off a close 14-10 loss to Johnson C. Smith and the Bears (3-6) are coming off a 61–10 drubbing at the hands of Winston Salem State University. So, in essence, the Falcons want to prove that there a team who has lost close games and are better than their 2-7 overall record indicates.
They will need to lean on their two stars in Roderick Davenport, who became the second Falcon in the modern era of the football program to reach 1,000 yards in a season (1,021 to be exact), and also Claytin Lewis, who has 41 receptions for 724 yards and is averaging 17.7 yards per catch.
Former alumni from both universities will be in attendance Saturday and would love bragging rights for at least one year, despite the teams struggles this season.
The contest will be played at the George Williams Athletic Complex and game time is 1:30 p.m. on Senior Day.
