Falcons win 8 events at track & field meet

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Saint Augustine’s University won eight events including six on Saturday, March 21, 2015, in the Wake Forest Open outdoor track & field meet at Kenter Stadium.
The men’s winners on the final day were sprinter Burkheart Ellis Jr. (Jr./Raleigh, NC), long jumper Alex Louden (Sr./Zebulon, NC) and the men’s 4×100 and 4×400 meter relay teams. The women’s winners were long jumper Shakinah Brooks (So./Raleigh, NC) and the women’s 4×400 meter relay team. On Friday, Moussa Dembele (Sr./Dakar, Senegal) was victorious in the men’s 110 meter hurdles and Tia-Adana Belle (So./St. George, Barbados) finished first in the women’s 400 meter dash.
On Saturday, the Falcons won the men’s 4×100 and 4×400 meter relays in provisional times of 40.96 seconds and 3:10.20, respectively.  Louden won the high jump B-section with a leap of 6-6¾, and Ellis was first in the men’s 200 meter dash in a provisional time of 21.21 seconds.
Brooks beat her competitors in the women’s long jump with a provisional leap of 19-5¼, and the Lady Falcons placed first in the women’s 4×400 meter relay in a provisional time of 3:43.88.
Several other Falcons and Lady Falcons stood out at the meet. On Saturday, the women’s 4×100 meter relay team was fourth in a provisional time of 46.59 seconds, and Shakera Hall placed sixth in the women’s 400 meter hurdles. Markivous Brown (Fr./West Palm Beach, FL) was sixth in the men’s 400 meter hurdles and David Shaw (Sr./Red Springs, NC) finished sixth in the men’s long jump. Kirvano Handfield was fourth in the men’s high jump invitational with a provisional height of 6-8¾.
On Friday, Shaw was second in the men’s triple jump with a provisional leap of 48-8. Shakiyla Hicks was sixth in the women’s 100 meter dash, and Khari Herbert (So./Coral Springs, FL) placed fourth in the men’s 400 meter dash in a provisional time of 47.78 seconds. Immanuel Hutchinson (Jr./San Jacinto, CA) was ninth in the men’s 1500 meter run Invitational, and Amenze Uhunmwangho (Fr./New Jersey) finished seventh in the women’s triple jump.
The Falcons and Lady Falcons have won 35 NCAA Division II National Titles under legendary Head Coach George Williams including the 2013 and 2014 Men’s Outdoor Championships.
