This year’s homecoming is going to be full of surprises and traditions. The homecoming theme this year is the Seven Deadly Sins of the Saint. The each homecoming day stands for a different sin. The seven deadly sins are Sloth, Lust, Pride, Envy, Greed, Gluttony, and Wrath.
On Prideful Sunday, Oct. 25, at 6 p.m. the annual Gospel Explosion will take place in Seby Jones Auditorium. The gospel explosion is always the social kickoff of homecoming. There will be seven performers the event, including the SAU Gospel Choir, a group from Duke University and more. The Gospel Explosion is free but a canned good donation is accepted.
On Greedy Monday, Oct, 26, at 11 a.m. the Campus Activities Board (CAB) will host Café Blue. Café Blue will take place every day during Homecoming week from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. The event consists of music and socializing in the Martin Luther King Jr. Dining Hall featuring DJ XL. The Falcon Feud game show, similar to the Family Feud TV show, will take place from 6-7 p.m. in Seby Jones auditorium. Following Falcon Feud will be the Falcons Got Talent Show. The talent show is an event where the SAU students can showcase their talents to the campus. The cost for this event is $5.
On Wrath Tuesday, Oct. 27 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m., Brian Dawson from K97.5 will host SAU’s newfound tradition known as the 1867 outside in the MLK mall area. The 1867 is a pep rally and social break for students, administration, staff and faculty to enjoy their lunch break outside as a Falcon family. Following the 1867 will be the Powder Puff Football Game. The game will take place on the university quadrangle from 2 p.m.-4 p.m. The senior and freshman females will take on the junior and sophomore female team. Later that night, from 9 p.m.-midnight, the NPHC Greeks will be hosting the annual Turn Up with the Greeks Party in the MLK conference center. The cost for Turn Up with the Greeks is $5.
The annual Homecoming Fashion Show will take place on Lust Wednesday at 7 p.m. The theme of this year’s fashion show is American Horror Story. The show will feature SAU’s own Nubiance and Belle Ja’Dore modeling troupes, Next Level high school, and Raw Legacy from Shaw University. The show will be held in the Seby Jones Auditorium and the cost is $5.
On Slothful Thursday, CAB will host a “color run” in the Boyer/Falk Crest parking lot from 4 p.m.-5 p.m. The cost for the color run will be $5. On Thursday night, the annual coronation for Miss Saint Augustine’s University Gentel Blair will take place – but with a major twist. This year’s coronation will feature the first-ever Mr. Saint Augustine’s University Ja’Quice Oates-Bethea. The theme of this year’s coronation is the Mr. and Miss Saint Augustine’s University Royal Love Affair. Immediately following the coronation will be a reception.
On Envy Friday, Oct. 30, Halloween Eve, the annual homecoming Falcon Day Fest on the university quadrangle will take place from noon-6 p.m. There will be no classes on Friday. The day fest will consist of music, live performances from five local artists, food vendors, clothing vendors, 92.1 radio live coverage, carnival games and attractions and more. The NPHC Greek Yard Show Nightmare on Greek Street will be in Emery gymnasium starting at 7 p.m. The cost for the yard show is $10 with your SAU ID and $12 for general admission. The yard show will be hosted by alumnus Shariah Green. It will also feature Kappa Kappa Psi and Tau Beta Sigma. After the stepshow, there will be a pregame party and a live performance from Rich Gang recording artist Jacquees. The cost for the concert and party is $25 with your SAU ID and $30 for general admission.
Gluttony Saturday, Oct. 31, Halloween, the SAU parade will be back in town starting at 8 a.m. The parade will feature floats, cars and walking units of SAU Registered Student Organizations. The parade is a intedned to get the community involved in the SAU Homecoming. Later, on Saturday night, the Pre-Dawn Halloween Costume party area will take place in Emery Gymnasium from 9 p.m.-2 a.m. No mask may be worn while entering the gymnasium. The cost is $10 with your SAU ID and $12 for general admission. Immediately follow the predawn will be chicken and waffles served in the Martin Luther King Jr. Dining Hall; that event is free for students.
