The Lady Falcons volleyball team continues to have an up-and-down season. They swept Johnson C. Smith University on Oct. 19, only to lose in three sets by Bluefield State College on Oct. 23. As this edition of The Falcon Forum went to press, the team had an 8-10 record and was preparing to bounce back against conference foe Winston-Salem State University in a road match.
The team’s task is clear to Juliseea Thomas, a senior from St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands: “In order to finish strong we must play every game with aggression – fight all the way to the top and play every opponent like they are the number one team. …We still have the potential to win a championship this season. The only thing that can hold us back is ourselves.”
The Lady Falcons’ schedule would appear to not favor them – three of the final four games are road games. But the team has actually done better on the road this season, where they have a .500 record, than at home, where they are 5-8. (One win was at a neutral site.) Also, the team is still waiting on the word for those postponed games to be rescheduled.
Whatever happens to the postponed games, the goal is clear, Thomas said: “We need to be more consistent on the court, make less errors, and play every point like it’s game point.”
