SAU wins four events at Buccaneer Invitational track meet

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – Saint Augustine’s University produced another outstanding performance this season with four victories in the Buccaneer Invitational indoor track and field meet at the David E. Walker Track on Saturday, Feb. 6, 2016.

 The winners for Saint Augustine’s University were Shaquille Dill (Fr./Pembroke, Bermuda) in the men’s 800-meter run (1:52.20), Ornella Livingston (Jr./St. Ann, Jamaica) in the women’s 60-meter dash (7.49), Shakinah Brooks (Jr./Raleigh, N.C.) in the women’s 200-meter dash (24.98) and Daniel Jamieson (Sr./Windsor, CT) in the men’s 200-meter dash (21.44). Livingston’s indoor time of 7.45 in the 60 semifinals was a career best and moved her to third in the Division II national rankings. She ran the fastest time in the preliminaries and semifinals as well as the finals in the women’s 60.
 
The foursome were part of a Falcons’ and Lady Falcons’ contingent which recorded 12 top-five finishes at the two-day meet. The women had five top-five finishes and the men had seven top-five finishes.
 
WOMEN
Livingston and Brooks led the way for the Lady Falcons with their first-place finishes. Amenze Uhunmwangho (Sr./Ebo, Nigeria) was second in the long jump (19-6¾) and the foursome of Ade Hunter (Soph./Philadelphia, PA), Livingston, Mylene Cannon (Jr./Dallas, TX) and Tia-Adana Belle (Jr./St. George, Barbados) was third in the 4×400-meter relay (3:49.91). Shakera Hall (Jr./Bridgetown, Barbados) placed fifth in the 60-meter hurdles (8.88).
 
MEN
Dill and Jamieson were two of several Falcons who stood out. Immanuel Hutchinson (Sr./San Jacinto, CA) was second behind Dill in the 800-meter run (1:52.31) and Burkheart Ellis, Jr. (Sr./Raleigh, NC) was second after Jamieson in the 200-meter dash (21.51).  Ellis also placed second in the 60-meter dash (6.82). Khari Herbert, Jr. (Jr./Coral Springs, FL) was third in the 400-meter dash (48.36) and Jumonne Exeter (Soph./St. Vincent) finished third in the triple jump (50-2¼).
 
NEXT MEET
The Falcons and Lady Falcons will compete in the CIAA Championships at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C., on Sunday, Feb. 14, and Monday, Feb. 15. The Falcons are the 18-time defending men’s champions and the Lady Falcons have won the women’s crown 16 times in the last 19 years.
