Runner wins national track and field honor

Shawn Rowe (Jr./West Palm Beach, Fla.) of Saint Augustine’s University was named by HERO Sports as D2 Men’s Track and Field National HERO of the Week on Monday, May 23, 2016.

Rowe topped a nationwide poll of 10 nominees to win the honor. He was nominated based on his performance in the Aggie Last Chance meet in Greensboro, N.C., last Sunday (May 15). Rowe ran a career-best time of 47.19 in the 400 dash.

In the national poll, Rowe garnered 67.96 percent of the votes to finish ahead of the other nominees. This is the first HERO of the Week award for Rowe, who enters the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships as the second seed in the 400 hurdles and the sixth seed in the 110 hurdles. The three-time defending men’s national champions, the Falcons are ranked first heading into the championship meet, which begins Thursday, May 26.
