Saint Augustine’s University joined other HBCUs around the nation today protesting recent police shootings of unarmed black men. Dozens of students marched around the courtyard and then to the plaza in front of the MLK building.

The event was  a peaceful demonstration in response to the deadly police shootings this week of Terence Crutcher in Tulsa, OK and Keith Scott in Charlotte, NC. Reporters from local TV stations covered the protest.

The students heard speeches and marched in line, clapping and chanting, “I ain’t gonna let nobody turn me around, turn me around, turn me around.”

The speeches included remarks by Stephen McLeon, president of the Student Government Association.

“Its time to come together and be unified,” McLeon said. “It’s time to take charge in voting and let our voices be heard. If there ever has been a time come together as a campus in unity, the time it now!”
