MURFREESBORO, NC (Dec 18) – On Saturday, Dec. 17, Ja’Yon Leak (Fr./Charlotte, NC) scored 15 points and Shakeisha Washington (Sr./Atlanta, GA) added 10 points for Saint Augustine’s University in a 91-64 CIAA women’s basketball loss to Chowan University at the Helms Center.
Kaaliya Williams (Fr./Richmond, VA) added nine points and Kelsee Arnold (So./Fayetteville, GA) registered nine points and nine rebounds for the Lady Falcons (0-2 CIAA, 3-10), who played their third road game in five days. The Lady Falcons will visit Virginia State University on Sunday, Dec. 18 in their second game in two days and their 13th straight away game since the season started.
Maiya Gibson (Jr./Randallstown, MD) scored seven points and Kiana Clark (Fr./Queens, NY) added six points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals for the Lady Falcons. Dhyamond Crenshaw scored 27 points to lead five double-figure scorers for the Hawks (3-0 CIAA, 10-2 overall).
The Lady Falcons can take away several positives in the loss. They outshot the Hawks from floor (44.2 to 43.2), the three-point line (50.0 to 23.8) and the free throw line (70.6 to 64.7) in addition to winning the second quarter 20-11 which helped them cut a 28-9 first-quarter deficit to 39-29 at halftime.
Ke-Ashe Lee (Jr./Roanoke, VA) opened the third quarter with a free throw to cut the margin to 39-30 but the Hawks went on a 29-13 run for a 68-43 lead. The run overshadowed a 13-point effort from Leak in the third quarter.
After Sunday, the Lady Falcons will make their first appearance at home inside Emery Gymnasium on Saturday, Dec. 31 . They will host Barton College at 2 p.m.
