They say the best gift we can give is ourselves, so the ladies of the Gamma Xi Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., from Saint Augustine’s University had the perfect gift for the community. On Dec. 6, 2016 at 6:30 pm, the sorority

went out to Pine Hills Apartments in Raleigh to show residents that they were being thought of and that they matter to Saint Augustine’s.

Along with ladies from the Beta Rho Chapter of AKA from Shaw University, the students entertained and served residents and community leaders. At the beginning of the program, students from SAU warmed up the residents by singing “Jingle Bells”, and “Silent Night.” Then, following the songs, SAU and Shaw students introduced a Christmas activity – the students stated a phrase and residents had to guess the song the phrase was associated with.

After a half an hour of singing and fun activities, it was time to serve the food, which was catered by The Best Catering Company, sponsored by the Raleigh Graduate Chapter- Alpha Theta Omega of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. The meal included ham, collard greens, rice, macaroni and cheese, turkey and dressing. Desert consisted of pound cake with white icing.

The residents seemed to heartily enjoy the event and, based on their outcome, sorority and university leaders determined that this project will be an annual celebration to take place during the Christmas holiday season.
