On Oct. 28, the Saint Augustine University football team recorded their first shutout of the season. And it came at the greatest time of the year – during Homecoming and with the Falcons in the midst of a good season. It all added up to a great atmosphere running through George Williams Athletic Complex as the Falcons hosted Johnson C. Smith University.
The Falcon scored 24 unanswered points starting with Lenwood Joyner’s 42 yard pass from DJ Johnson to put the first points on the board. Then later on in the same quarter Johnson threw a 15 -ard pass to the Number 1 Assassin also known as Sam Boyd to put the Falcons up 14-0 at half time.
In the second half, the Falcons put the first points on the board with Ford’s 18-yard field goal. Then to close out the game Jeremiah Miller scored on a 1-yard touchdown run.
During all that the defense was holding up their end, not allowing the Golden Bulls to enter the end zone, including some big time plays from defensive back Anthony Gaskins, defensive lineman Chasz Cosby and linebacker James Hickman.
Next week is a big week as the Falcons need visit crosstown rivals and hope come out with a victory while praying for Winston-Salem State University to beats Fayetteville State University. That would allow the Falcons can take a trip to Salem Va., for the CIAA Championship on Nov. 11
