Lady Falcons finish 3rd among CIAA schools in HBCU Challenge meet

RALEIGH, N.C. (Oct. 7) – Saint Augustine’s University placed third among CIAA schools in the HBCU Challenge women’s 5K race at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C., on Saturday.

 The Lady Falcons finished sixth overall with 161 points. Shannon Kalawan (Fr./Westmoreland, Jamaica) ran the team’s fastest time (21:40.2) to finish eighth among CIAA runners and 20th overall. Iris Robinson (Jr./Birmingham, AL) placed 12th among CIAA runners and 28th overall (22:03), and Florence Fields (Fr./St. Michaels, Barbados) was 13th among CIAA runners and 29th overall (22:09).

The Falcons scored 191 points in the men’s 8K run to finish fourth among CIAA schools and seventh overall. Nikolas Thomas (So./Capital Heights, MD) placed eighth among CIAA runners and 30th overall (29:44.8), and Ja-mont Hike-Charles (Fr./Portsmouth, VA) finished 13th among CIAA runners and 36th overall (30:15.5).

The Falcons and Lady Falcons will compete again Friday, Oct. 13, in the ECU Pirate Invitational in Greenville, N.C. The event begins at 5:30 p.m.
