Trap Zumba

Delta Sigma Theta, Inc., is trying to make working out easy. The sorority hosted a Zumba class in Taylor Wellness Center on Nov. 8. Over 30 people attended and the sorority declared the event a success.

“This event was my favorite one this semester!” said ShiDoris Williams, VP of the Gamma Rho of Delta Sigma Theta. “We will definitely be doing this next semester.”

Zumba is a type of exercise created by Alberto Perez, a Colombian dancer, choreographer and cyclist who is also known as “Beto” and “Power Pedal.” This workout involves energetic dance and aerobic movements that combine hip-hop, salsa, samba and mambo.

The event was taught by Javonni McGlaurin, a program assistant for the Office of International Programs. McGlaurin said it was a “fun event” and promised to do it again next semester.

“Seemed like everyone was having fun and this was a good  way to stay active,” McGlaurin said. “This activity could let students have a mental break from everything.”

A Zumba session not yet been scheduled for the spring. For more information, contact Angela B. Barnes, director of the Taylor Wellness Center, at 919.516.4711.
