Volleyball team falls to Shaw in season finale

RALEIGH, N.C. (Nov. 9) – Saint Augustine’s University concluded the 2017 volleyball season with a 3-0 CIAA loss (13-25, 15-25, 17-25) to Shaw University at Spaulding Gymnasium on Thursday.

CIAA kills leader Shakera Hall (Jr./Bridgetown, Barbados) led the Lady Falcons with 11 kills and eight digs. Chandra Mackey (Fr./Nassau, Bahamas) added six kills and four digs and Marley Parker (Sr./Langley, British Columbia) contributed three kills and five digs while Taylor Irving (Fr./Nassau, Bahamas) had 21 assists, two service aces and four digs.

The trio of Keveesha Whattley, Kelly Murphy and Tapanga Moten each had nine kills apiece for the Lady Bears (9-1 Southern Division, 25-4 overall). Michelle Olmeda-Gonzalez tallied 22 assists.

The Lady Falcons finished the season 2-8 in the Southern Division and 5-11 overall. This was the final collegiate match for Hall, Parker, Akera McPhaul (Sr./Greensboro, NC) and Elisa Ray (Sr./Nashville, TN). The Lady Falcons return first-year standouts Irving, Mackey and Mechelle Moss (Fr./Nassau, Bahamas) next season.
