Falcons win local golf tournament as CIAA Championship nears

CLAYTON, N.C. (April 16) – Saint Augustine’s University prepared for the CIAA Men’s Golf Championship by winning the Falcon Spring Invitational at Pine Hollow Golf Course on Monday.

The Falcons shot a one-day score of 312 to win by 19 strokes on the par 71, 6,508-yard course. Elizabeth City State University and Fayetteville State University tied for second with a 331 score and Virginia State University was fourth with a 355 score in the four-team tournament.

Sam Cudjoe (Fr./Bethel, Trinidad and Tobago) of SAU was the low medalist in the tournament. He shot a 72 to finish one stroke ahead of Isaiah Shaw of Fayetteville State, who placed second with a 73.

Cudjoe was one of three SAU golfers to shoot under 80 as James Thomas Moore (So./Fairfax, VA) and Jaylon Lynn (Fr./Garner, NC) fired a 74 and 79, respectively. Moore placed third and Lynn finished sixth while teammate Curt Morris (Fr./Cartersville, GA) tied for 11th with an 87.

The Falcon Spring Invitational was a tune-up for the CIAA Men’s Golf Championship, which will be held Thursday, April 19, and Friday, April 20, at The Club at Viniterra in New Kent, Va. Cudjoe enters the tournament as the CIAA’s top-ranked golfer and the Falcons rank fourth among eight CIAA schools.
