RALEIGH, N.C. (Feb. 20) – Four players scored in double figures as Saint Augustine’s University (SAU) nearly rallied from a second-half double-digit deficit in a 75-67 CIAA women’s basketball loss to Livingstone College at New Trent Gymnasium in Salisbury, N.C., on Wednesday.
Angela Caraballo (Sr./Richmond, VA) scored 15 points and Shankia Clark (Jr./Orlando, FL) added 14 points and 13 rebounds for the SAU women. Kamya Renwicks (Jr./Baltimore, MD) finished with 13 points, five rebounds and seven assists and Jordyn Burton (Fr./Durham, NC) chipped in 12 points and six boards for the Lady Falcons, who shot 47.5 percent, their second-highest shooting percentage this season.
The Lady Falcons shot 56.3 percent in the second half as they erased a 13-point third-quarter deficit after trailing 32-25 at halftime. They led three times by one point in the fourth period, the last time at 57-56 on Caraballo’s jumper with just under six minutes left, but the Lady Blue Bears ended the game with a 19-10 run.
Caraballo scored 13 points in the second half for the Lady Falcons. Renwicks and Clark each added eight points in the final two quarters with Clark snatching seven rebounds.
For the contest, the Lady Falcons outscored the Lady Blue Bears 21-11 in bench points and 34-24 in points in the paint. They also outrebounded the hosts 46-40.
Daisa Harris scored 22 points and Kyala Searcy added 20 points for the Lady Blue Bears, who shot 34.8 percent from the floor. Darra Walker contributed 14 points.
The Lady Blue Bears (5-6 Southern Division, 8-19 overall) made 22 of 34 free throw attempts compared to 6 of 11 for the Lady Falcons. They scored 28 points off Lady Falcon turnovers.
The Lady Falcons (2-9 Southern Division, 3-21 overall) conclude the regular season at home against Fayetteville State University on Saturday, Feb. 23. Game time is 4 p.m.at Emery Gymnasium.
