SAU Track & Field travels to Bill Carson invitational this weekend

RALEIGH, N.C. (April 4) – Saint Augustine’s University will compete in the Bill Carson Invitational track & field meet in Greenville, N.C., this weekend.

The meet will be held Friday, April 5, and Saturday, April 6, at the Bate Foundation Track and Field Facility on the East Carolina University campus. The starting times are 10 a.m. on Friday and 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.

SAU is one of six teams participating in the meet. The others are The Citadel, Coastal Carolina University, UNC Charlotte, Western Carolina University and host East Carolina.

The Falcons are second nationally in the NCAA Division II men’s rankings by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). The Lady Falcons are seventh in the Division II women’s rankings.

The SAU men and women lead the nation’s Division II teams in five events. Nathan Fergusson (Fr./St. Thomas, Barbados) ranks first in the men’s 400 hurdles and the team of Fergusson, Brandon Parris (Sr./Sion Hill, St. Vincent), Dontarian Evans (Sr./Gainesville, FL) and Darren Alfred (Fr./Bethel, Trinidad & Tobago) ranks first in the men’s 4×100 relay.

The team of Fergusson, Jalen Jones (Fr./Raeford, NC), Alfred and Parris ranks first in the men’s 4×400 relay. Amanda Crawford (Jr./Brooklyn, NY) ranks first in the women’s 400 dash and the group of Jaria Hoyte (Fr./St. Phillip, Barbados), Crawford, Danielle Scantlebury (Fr./St. George, Barbados) and Shannon Kalawan (Jr./Westmoreland, Jamaica) ranks first in the women’s 4×400 relay.

The SAU men and women have combined to win 39 NCAA Division II national championships during the indoor and outdoor seasons. Legendary Head Coach George Williams has won the most NCAA national track and field championships of any coach, regardless of division.
