Volleyball team falls in season opener

Janina Mayers Collected A Match-High 10 Digs Vs. JCSU

RALEIGH, N.C. (Sept. 26) – Saint Augustine’s University opened the 2019 women’s volleyball season with a 3-0 CIAA Southern Division road loss to Johnson C. Smith University.

The Lady Falcons fell 25-17, 25-20, 25-14 at Brayboy Gymnasium in Charlotte, N.C. The trio of Deandra Small (Fr./St. Philip, Barbados), Tia Jones (So./Bridgetown, Barbados) and Alyssa Smith (Jr./Orangeburg, SC) each had four kills for the Lady Falcons.

Smith added two blocks and Malique Webb (So./St. Catherine, Jamaica) tallied eight assists. Janina Mayers (So./Christ Church, Barbados) finished with 10 digs.

Elyse Bonnett totaled five kills, seven assists and six digs for the Golden Bulls, who improved to 2-2 overall and 1-0 in the CIAA Southern Division.

The Lady Falcons hit the road again Saturday, Sept. 28, to face Claflin University in Orangeburg, S.C. Match time is 2 p.m.
