Freeman of SAU wins Livingstone Cross Country Invitational

RALEIGH, N.C. (Oct. 13) – Baron Freeman (So./Hampton, VA) of Saint Augustine’s University (SAU) blazed to victory in the men’s 8K race at the Livingstone Cross Country Invitational in Salisbury, N.C., on Friday, Oct. 11.
Freeman, the defending CIAA champion, crossed the finish line at Salisbury Community Park in 27:07.1 for his second cross country win of the season. He was the fastest college runner in another race this year.
His teammates Bethwel Cheruiyot (So./Nairobi, Kenya) and Dayquan Chapman (Jr./Winterville, NC) finished 15th (30.09.2) and 19th (31.17.7), respectively. Shaquille Dill (Sr./Pembroke, Bermuda) was 20th (31.22.1), Robert Edwards, Jr. (So./Pembroke, Bermuda) placed 21st (31.36.7) and Robert Walker (Jr./Newburgh, NY) was 22nd (31.48.9) for the Falcons. Seventy-eight runners participated in the men’s race.
In the women’s 5k race, Florence Fields (Jr./St. Michaels, Barbados) placed fifth in 21.55.3. Davia Smith (So./Manchester, Jamaica) finished 32nd (25:03.2) and Janiyah Harrington (Fr./Raeford, NC) was 39th (26:20.1) for the Lady Falcons. The women’s race featured 87 runners.

SAU competes again at the Pirate Invitational in Greenville, N.C., on Friday, Oct. 18. The meet will be held at Lake Kristi starting with the women’s 6K race at 4:45 p.m. The men’s 8k race is scheduled to begin at 5:20 p.m
