RALEIGH, N.C. (Nov. 12) – Junior guard Quiera Gilmore (Charlotte, NC) of Saint Augustine’s University was named CIAA Women’s Basketball Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday.
Gilmore was a terror on defense in helping the Lady Falcons post a 2-0 mark in the CIAA/PSAC Challenge in Lincoln University, Pa., this past weekend. The Lady Falcons’ 2-0 start is their first since 2011.
Gilmore accumulated a whopping 12 steals in the Challenge, including nine in a 68-67 overtime victory over Kutztown University on Saturday, Nov. 9. Gilmore was getting the job done offensively as well, scoring a game-high 18 points to go along with nine steals and three rebounds against Kutztown. Her performance came on the heels of a 14-point, 4-assist, 3-steal, 3-rebound night in a 63-51 win over Clarion University on Friday, Nov. 8.
Her two-game outing earned Gilmore All-Tournament honors on Saturday. It also earned Gilmore her first CIAA weekly award this season.
