Red-Hot SAU Men’s Basketball Hosts Livingstone Monday In CIAA Southern Division Battle

RALEIGH, N.C. (Jan. 12) – Straight off a convincing win over Lincoln (Pa.) University on Saturday, Saint Augustine’s University (SAU) ventures into CIAA Southern Division play with a home men’s basketball game against Livingstone College Monday, Jan. 13, at 7:30 p.m. This is the last of a four-game, 10-day homestand at Emery Gymnasium for the Falcons, who are on a three-game win streak.
The Falcons have been red-hot during their streak, averaging 92 points on 56 percent shooting against quality opponents. Six players are averaging eight or more points in their last three games, including 19 points from Gary Jefferson (Jr./Baltimore, MD), who was last week’s CIAA Player of the Week. Donte Edwards (So./Durham, NC) is averaging 12.7 points and Miguel Brown (Jr./Wilson, NC) is averaging 11 points.
The Falcons’ talent was on full display in a 93-60 victory over Lincoln (Pa.) Saturday. SAU shot 54 percent – the third consecutive game shooting better than 50 percent – while holding the Lions to 29 percent shooting, a season-low for an SAU opponent. SAU won the rebounding battle 52-34 and the Falcons’ bench contributed 48 points in the victory.
Edwards led four double-figure scorers with 15 points and Hirk Williams (Sr./Manassas, VA) added 12 points for the Falcons, who had seven players score eight or more points.
For the season, Jefferson leads a Falcons’ balanced scoring attack with a 14.2 average. Jalen Gaddy (Sr./Raleigh, NC) averages 13.5 points and Edwards average 9.3 points. Brown averages 9.2 points and Karaan Clemonts (Jr./Weldon, NC) averages 8.3 points.
While the Falcons are soaring, Livingstone is searching for its first win of the New Year. Picked to win the CIAA Southern Division, the Blue Bears are on a three-game losing streak with all three defeats coming on the road. In their last game, the Blue Bears lost 87-79 to Elizabeth City State University on Jan. 9.
The Blue Bears (8-7 overall, 3-3 CIAA) are led by Roger Ray with a 20.7 scoring average. Lydell Elmore is scoring at 17.1 points a clip.
The contest will count as a conference game. The Falcons (0-4 CIAA, 5-8 overall) will look to snap a three-game home losing streak to the Blue Bears, including a 69-66 loss at Emery Gymnasium in 2019. The average margin in all three games was 4.3 points.
Tickets are $13 for general admission and $8.50 for senior citizens, military personnel with valid ID, faculty, staff, visiting college students with ID and children ages 6-12 as part of a doubleheader. The contest is free for SAU students and children ages 5 and under per one paying adult.
