The Saint Augustine’s University men’s and women’s teams are in familiar positions as the outdoor track & field season gets in full swing. The Falcons’ men are first and the Lady Falcons are second in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches (USTFCCCA) Division II Outdoor National Team Computer Rankings, which were released Tuesday, April 1, 2014.
The Falcons lead the men’s rankings ahead of second-place Texas A&M-Kingsville University and third-place Adams State University. Johnson C. Smith University is atop the women’s rankings followed by the Lady Falcons in second and Angelo State University in third.
St. Aug is the defending men’s outdoor national champion and the two-time men’s indoor national champ. The program has won 34 NCAA Division II men’s and women’s titles under the direction of legendary Head Coach George Williams.
“The rankings are impressive, but what counts is the final result at nationals,” Williams said. “We will continue to work hard.”
After a sizzling performance in the Raleigh Relays last weekend, St. Aug holds the top spot nationally in four events. Among the men, Roxroy Cato (Manchester, Jamaica) is the top 400 meter hurdler with a time of 50.22. The 4×100 relay squad of Daniel Jamieson (Soph./Windsor, CT), Taffawee Johnson (Sr./St. Ann, Jamaica), Kevaughn Hewitt (Jr./Miramar, FL) and Jermaine Jones (Jr./Wilmington, NC) has the fastest time of 40.07.
The foursome of Josh Edmonds (Sr./Jacksonville, FL), James Quarles (Sr./Washington, DC), Elhadji Mbow (Sr./Dakar, Senegal) and Cato has the best 4×400 relay squad with a time of 3:06.59. The women’s quartet of Tia-Adana Belle (Fr./Bridgetown, Barbados), Cherrisse Lynch (Jr./St. Lawrence, Barbados), Akeisha Dumont (Sr./Brooklyn, NY) and Marie-Jeanne Eba (Fr./Bonvillard, France) maintained its 4×400 relay ranking this week with a top time of 3:41.70.
