Spring is finally here and outdoor activity is beginning to stir on campus. One of the activities that marks spring on Saint Augustine’s University’s campus is Spring Fling/Open House. Spring Fling is one of the highlights of the spring semester for students, and it is also an event where they can invite their families to come and have a good time and for potential students and their families to check out the campus.
The event will take place on April 11, and Atai Price, the Campus Activities Board president, promised it will be special. “This year’s event is going to be bigger and better than ever,” Price said.
Open House, which will include college tours, will start at 8:00 a.m. “The visiting student will get a chance to see our beautiful campus and talk to RSO presidents about what Saint Augustine’s University has to offer,” said Miyoshi Polk, of the SAU admissions office.
Clubfest starts at 10 a.m. At that event, all Registered Student Organizations will set up tables in the MLK mall area to showcase their organizations.
Spring Fling will also start at 10 a.m. That event, which takes place on the campus quad, will have food including popcorn, cotton candy and an icy machine. There will be a dunk tank run by the Omega Psi Phi fraternity members on campus, a mechanical bull, go carts and a rock climbing wall. Face painting by RSO’s will be provided.
There also will be a Falcon showcase where students can show off their talents. Auditions for that will be announced soon.
Spring Fling also will feature a performance by the Blue Chip cheerleading squad, and the Alphas and Kappa Kappa Psi will be performing a unity stroll together. The popular blue-and white game played by the SAU mighty football team will be taking place that day as well.
After Spring Fling is over, there will be a block party in Falkcrest from 7 p.m.-11 p.m.
Students are eagerly anticipating the day. “I’m excited about spring fling because it will be my first one and I’m ready for something new,” said Trynace Miller a freshman criminal justice major.
