RALEIGH, N.C. (March 23) – Standout sprinter Shannon Kalawan (Jr./Westmoreland, Jamaica) and the women’s 4×400 relay team from Saint Augustine’s University were winners at the VertKlasse Meeting track & field meet in High Point, N.C., this weekend. The meet took place Thursday, March 21, Friday, March 22, and Saturday, March 23, at Dick Vert Stadium on the High Point University campus.
Kalawan, the defending 400-meter outdoor national champion, won her event in an NCAA Division II provisional time of 54.38. She led a Lady Falcon contingent which claimed three of the top four places in the 400. Amanda Crawford (Jr./Brooklyn, NY) was third and Jaria Hoyte (Fr./St. Phillip, Barbados) finished fourth.
Hoyte was part of the 4×400 relay squad which captured its event. The relay team included Tashoy Blake (Clarendon, Jamaica), Nia Erwin (Sr./Philadelphia, PA) and Davia Smith (Sr./Manchester, Jamaica).
