RALEIGH, N.C. (Dec. 2) – Saint Augustine’s University (SAU) had some good moments in a 75-44 women’s basketball loss to Division I North Carolina A&T State University at Corbett Sports Center in Greensboro, N.C., on Monday. The contest counted as an exhibition game for the Lady Falcons.
The Lady Falcons led 9-7 early on a putback by Jordyn Burton (So./Durham, NC). They only trailed 10-9 after the first period and 30-18 at halftime before the Aggies took charge in the second half.
SAU bothered A&T with its quickness and outrebounded the taller Aggies 19-12 on the offensive glass in addition to collecting more steals (14-12). The Lady Falcons grabbed more total rebounds in the first half (23-19) and made 3 of 4 three-pointers in the second half.
Sha’nia Leach (Jr./Red Springs, NC) had seven points, four rebounds and three steals, and Nia Phillips (Jr./Bronx, NY) finished with seven points for the Lady Falcons. Burton tallied six points and six rebounds and Quiera Gilmore (Sr./Charlotte, NC) totaled five steals.
C’coriea Foy of A&T (5-3 overall) led all scorers with 23 points. Cinia McCray added 13 points and eight rebounds and Deja Winters chipped in 10 points.
The Lady Falcons resume their regular-season schedule with a home contest against CIAA foe Bowie State University on Thursday, Dec. 5. Game time is 4 p.m. at Emery Gymnasium. The game will count as a non-conference contest.
