RALEIGH, N.C. (Feb. 23) – The Saint Augustine’s University men’s and women’s basketball teams open play in the CIAA Tournament on Tuesday, Feb. 25, at Bojangles’ Coliseum in Charlotte, N.C.
The Lady Falcons face Elizabeth City State University in a women’s first-round matchup at 10 a.m. The Falcons square off against Lincoln (Pa.) University in a men’s first-round contest at 6:40 p.m.
The SAU women (10-18 overall) are seeded fifth in the Southern Division and Elizabeth City State (11-17 overall) is seeded fourth in the Northern Division. The winner will face Fayetteville State in the quarterfinals on Wednesday, Feb. 26, inside Bojangles’ Coliseum at 2:20 p.m. Fayetteville State is the top seed in the Southern Division.
The SAU men (11-17 overall) are the fifth seed in the Southern Division and Lincoln, Pa. (9-19 overall) is the fourth seed in the Northern Division. The winner meets Johnson C. Smith University in Wednesday’s quarterfinal round at 8:50 p.m. inside Bojangles’ Coliseum. Johnson C. Smith is the top seed in the Southern Division.
The Lady Falcons played Elizabeth City State twice during the regular season. The first contest went to two overtimes in Raleigh, N.C., before SAU fell 91-81 on Dec. 14, 2019. Both teams played again recently with ECSU winning 80-64 in Elizabeth City, N.C., on Feb. 19, 2020.
The Falcons and Lincoln (Pa.) split their two-game season series. SAU won 93-60 in Raleigh, N.C., on Jan. 11, 2020, which is its largest margin of victory this season. In the rematch, the Falcons held a double-digit lead before Lincoln rallied for a 69-67 win on Feb. 5, 2020.
All games will be broadcast on the CIAA Sports Network (https://theciaasn.com/) for a fee with the final eight games also being shown on Aspire TV.
