CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Feb. 28) – Former Saint Augustine’s University head women’s basketball coach Antonio Davis was inducted into the CIAA Hall of Fame at the Charlotte Convention Center on Friday.
Davis was inducted for his basketball exploits at Livingstone College in the 1980s. One of the greatest shooters in college basketball history, he is the only known player to post 50/50/90 career shooting percentages, meaning he averaged over 50 percent in overall shooting, 50 percent in three-point shooting and 90 percent in free throw shooting. No other player in NCAA history has averaged 50/50/90 in a season.
Davis earned All-CIAA, All-District 26 and All-America honors at Livingstone and led the nation in scoring at 35 points per game in the 1987-88 season. He finished his career as the school’s career scoring leader with 1,800 points.
Davis was head women’s basketball coach at Saint Augustine’s University from 2001 to 2007. The Lady Falcons won the CIAA Team Highest Grade Point Average Award in women’s basketball four straight years and were nationally ranked at one point during the 2005-06 season.
Davis, currently the head women’s basketball coach at Elizabeth City State University, is part of the 2020 Hall of Fame class, which includes former players LeVelle Moton of North Carolina Central University and A.J. English of Virginia Union University, former basketball and football official Leslie Speight and the 1983 Virginia Union Women’s Basketball Team that won the NCAA Division II national title.
