RALEIGH, N.C. – The Saint Augustine’s University volleyball team has a 2-9 record but they may be turning things around. The Lady Falcons have won two of their last four games.
The team defeated Johnson C. Smith in straight sets on Sept. 25, gaining their first win of the season.
The Lady Falcons got off to a hot start against the Golden Bulls and didn’t look back to capture the first set 25-13. The remaining two sets both went back and forth before the Lady Falcons pulled away to win both sets 25-18 to win the match 3-0.
Saint Augustine’s dominated the contest with 43 kills compared to Johnson C. Smith’s 27.
The win put them in a tie for second place in the CIAA Southern Division.
The Lady Falcons lost two of their next three games — losing matches with Elizabeth City State University on Sept. 30 by a 3-1 score, and to Virginia State University on Oct. 1, also by a 3-1 score.
In between those matches, however, the Lady Falcons swept Lincoln University, winning the games by scores of 25-13, 25-18 and 25-18. Madison Jones led with four kills.
The 2-9 record is not as bad as it seems because only three of their nine losses were in conference play. In the CIAA, the Lady Falcons hold a more respectable 2-3 record.
